Toei Animation press release |
A teaser video released on Sunday for Eiichiro Oda's One Piece manga and its anime adaptation confirms that the anime will continue the ongoing Egghead arc in April. This announcement came after the television broadcast of the Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation anime and the One Piece Film Red on Sunday evening
The live-streamed One Piece News #1 special confirmed that the One Piece anime will undergo a temporary change in its regular Sunday timeslot until March 2025 for a "recharge." More details, including the new timeslot starting in April, will be revealed during Jump Festa 2025 on December 22.
In place of the regular episodes, the One Piece Fan Letter special will air next Sunday, followed by a special, edited version of the Fish-Man Island arc starting on October 27. The abridged 21-episode "One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga" will feature reshot scenes with enhanced art, color shading, lighting, special effects, and a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.
Special "secret guests," identified as the Straw Hat Pirates (Mugiwara no Ichimi), will perform a new version of the opening theme "We Go!" (originally sung by Hiroshi Kitadani) for the special edit. Additionally, the boy band BE, made up of self-professed One Piece fans, will contribute the ending theme song, "Sailing."
A One Piece smartphone app, One Piece Base, featuring a manga viewer and other franchise content, is launching in Japan this Sunday, with plans for an international release in 2025. Fans can scan barcodes from select One Piece merchandise to earn points and unlock chapters. The app will also offer a Nigaoe Maker (Portrait Maker) feature, turning users' photos into art in Eiichiro Oda's signature style.
Earlier on Sunday, the official One Piece English YouTube channel streamed a new promotional video for the One Piece Fan Letter special, set to air on October 20. The special, based on Tomohito ÅŒsaki's One Piece novel Mugiwara Stories (Straw Hat Stories), celebrates the anime's 25th anniversary.
One Piece Film Red, the franchise's 15th film, opened in August 2022 and earned 20.33 billion yen (about US$137 million) in Japan by its final encore screening in November 2023. The film is Japan's sixth highest-grossing film of all time (unadjusted for inflation) and the fourth highest-earning anime film in the country. It is the highest-grossing film in the One Piece franchise, topping Japan's 2022 box office in both yen earned and tickets sold.
Meanwhile, the second season of the live-action One Piece series is in development, alongside a One Piece anime remake by Wit Studio for Netflix.
Update 2: Toei Animation and Comic Natalie have provided more details. Crunchyroll has confirmed it will stream both One Piece Fan Letter and One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga.
